The Class of 2016 White Coat Ceremony was held Aug. 13, 2012, in Alumni Auditorium. The 170 new medical students received their white coats as they formally enter their role as student-physician, also taking the Hippocratic Oath.
This year's ceremony featured Kenneth A. Forde, MD, professor emeritus of clinical surgery and special lecturer, as the guest speaker. He stressed the importance of having the principles of "curiosity, competence and compassion," he said. "These three have provided me constant guidance and endless satisfaction [as a physician]. ... Be open to questioning, even yourself. And learn to listen."
The Arnold P. Gold Foundation started The White Coat Ceremony at commencement exercises at P&S in 1993, where Dr. Arnold Gold has been a teacher and pediatric neurologist for more than forty years. Dr. Gold also attended this year's ceremony and greeted the Class of 2016.
