The 2011 Award for Excellence, recognizing the contributions of P&S staff, was presented Jan. 26 at the Faculty Club. This year’s recipients were Phyllis Katz, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics, and Danurys Sanchez, Taub Institute/Sergievsky Center. Sandra Harris, of the Office of Government and Community Affairs, accepted an award on behalf of the Medical Center Neighborhood Fund.
Jennifer Manly, PhD, introduced Danurys Sanchez, noting that she has been called “the gold standard. Her dedication to high-quality work, impeccable management skills and consistent professionalism has helped make our research studies tremendously successful.” Sanchez thanked her departments for supporting her efforts to be both mother and professional. “It will be amazing to share with my daughters,” she said, “that when they were growing up, their mother was part of a worldwide effort to help those affected by neurological diseases.”
In introducing Phyllis Katz, Tom Maniatis, PhD, thanked her for everything she does for faculty. “I have to acknowledge my colleagues,” Katz said, “and our chair, Dr. Tom, who we have come to love dearly – even though he is a Patriots fan. … Even though it has my name on it, this award celebrates all of us.”
In accepting the award for the Medical Center Neighborhood Fund, Sandra Harris thanked P&S for the recognition and acknowledged that the fund is a truly collaborative effort.
