NRMP and Graduate Medical Education

In August all fourth year students register for the National Residency Match Program. Students may withdraw later only if they are accepted into an Armed Forces residency program or if they decide to postpone entering into a PGY-1 residency. The following tentative calendar gives an idea of the way in which the NRMP process unfolds during the student’s fourth year.

January-May:

Students meet with Senior Associate Dean for Student Affairs, for “Medical Student Performance Evaluation (MSPE)” interview and for career counseling.

July-early September

Residency applications completed and submitted.

November 1

MSPEs are submitted to hospital program directors as dictated by national deadline.

November-January

Interview months. Students interview at hospital programs.

3rd week in February

Student rank order lists are due at NRMP; also hospital rank order lists.

3rd Thursday in March

MATCH DAY. Announcement of NRMP results.
