Columbia University also offers several Masters of Science programs complementary to the MD degree. Find more details below.
One-year Masters of Science programs available to medical students that complement the primary MD degree and are offered at the Morningside Campus and Columbia University Medical Center include Narrative Medicine, Biomedical Informatics, and Bioethics.
An informational meeting regarding the MD/MPH, MD/MBA, and Masters of Science programs is held in the Fall each year. Start dates for the MBA program are January of third or fourth year of P&S; start dates for the MPH and Masters programs are September of fourth year of P&S.
Ten medical students are selected each year for the prestigious Columbia-Bassett Program. This program permits students interested in learning medicine in a rural environment to complete their first 18 months at P&S in New York City followed by a longitudinal clerkship year with exposure to health care management at Bassett Healthcare in Cooperstown, NY. Students select electives in the final phase of the curriculum from either campus.
P&S also offers the Daniel Noyes Brown Scholars Program for students interested in a comprehensive longitudinal experience in primary care beginning first year.
