Sumit Mohan, MD, MPH

Sumit Mohan is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine with the Division of Nephrology in Department of Medicine. His clinical and research interests include improving clinical outcomes with renal replacement therapy, renal transplantation, organ allocation/utilization as well as in reducing disparities in the care of patients with kidney disease. He was a member of the New York State Governor’s Chronic Kidney Disease Detection, Control and Prevention Task Force and the chair of the data committee for the Fistula First Breakthrough Initiative for CMS. He is currently a member of the Editorial Board for the journal Transplantation.
He is a former associate program director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program at Harlem Hospital where his teaching skills were recognized with the Teacher of the year award for 2 consecutive years and as an outstanding teacher by the graduating class of internal medicine residents for 3 consecutive years. He received the Distinguished Educator Award from the third year P&S students in 2008. He has also taught a session on bedside teaching at the Annual Summer Institute for Teaching and Learning for the Glenda Garvey Teaching Academy. Currently he teaches in the annual renal pathophysiology course for medical students, the annual Update and Intensive Review of Internal Medicine as well teaching fellows in general nephrology and renal transplant in both inpatient and outpatient clinical settings.
